Acute tinnitus
“iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...............” Most of the time, a tinnitus occurs suddenly. Transitory noise – lasting seconds to minutes – occur occasionally in ¾ of all people and are considered normal. Durable noise is called “tinnitus” – noise in the ear.

In this case, often an acute damage of the internal ear (the actual sensory organ, the “cochlea”) has occurred. At first, “loss of hearing” is frequently recognised due to subjective noise in the ear. The pressure in the ear, a hypoacousia, occasionally distorted hearing or even vertigo may add to it.
Stress-related disorder? – Yes and no. Today, the parallels to cardiac infarctions are drawn. Acute circulatory disturbance, typical risk factors are – just as for the heart: elevated blood pressure, increased amount of blood serum lipids, high cholesterol and smoking. The analysis is essential.
Noise (“multi-purpose vacuum/blower”, disco, mp3-player …) increasingly often leads to noise in the ear – especially in juveniles.
Some infecting agents, such as the tick-borne borreliosis, are identified repeatedly (no vaccination possible!). Even far more seldom, benign tumours in the course of the auditory and vestibular nerves to the brain.

Noise - actions must be taken upon acute tinnitus. Today, acute tinnitus with or without hypoacousia (loss of hearing) is no longer considered an acute emergency; a couple of hours delay are unproblematic without any significant worsening of the chances of recovery, but a waiting period of days or even weeks should be avoided.

Diagnostics and acute treatment from one source: the EuromedClinic is perfectly suited to meet this requirement. The colleagues are reachable on short ways: neurology in case the brain-supplying arteries are to be examined, in case other defunctionalisation symptoms are detected, an electro-encephalogram has to be conducted, a sample of the cerebral liquor is required, the internal medicine in case the cardiac rhythm is irregular, the blood pressure or blood values are to be adjusted, the orthopaedic surgery in case disorders of the shoulders, neck, cervical spine or past accidents have to be taken into account, the dentistry in case the temporomandibular joint or teeth become conspicuous during the examination, the radiology in case an image of structures of the internal ear, nerves and the brain including the cerebral vessels is required. Medically known causes are found. As an important part of the otorhinolaryngology department, the neurotology allows for an extensive analysis of the auditory and vestibular organ for managing the therapy, due to the wide-ranging instrumental equipment. Physical therapy, psychosomatic medicine, stress reduction, alternative therapies including acupuncture are called in according to the individual necessity. Loss of hearing and tinnitus: complex clinical picture that requires interdisciplinary diagnostics and therapy. Useful coordination, controlling and combination, evaluation and interdisciplinary assessment: we get together to obtain the best-possible result.

Once the suspicion has been made, a regimen of therapy commences, which aims at improving the metabolic situation of the internal ear parallel to the ongoing diagnostics. Drugs favouring the blood flow help delivering more nutrients and carrying away metabolic products. The oxygen supply can also be improved with drugs, as well as it is beneficiary to optimise the need for trace elements. Depending on the severity and the duration, drugs can be administered as tablets or injections and in severe cases as stationary infusion therapy.
