Chronic inflammation of the lid margin (blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis)
The chronic inflammation of the eyelid is an extremely painful chronic inflammation of the eyelids, preferentially of the lower lid margin. The inflammation can exist from early childhood on and for the rest of life or can also advance in years.

Principally it is differentiated between two different forms of eyelid inflammations.
- The leprose eyelid inflammation (Blepharitis ulcerosa), that is characterized by an exfoliating eruption of the skin especially in the eyelash area.
- The ulcerous eyelid inflammation (Blepharitis ulcerosa)

Of particular importance is that the lid hygiene is made consequently even after the complaints have bettered.

The actual inflammation is caused by bacteria that is classing among the scales and with this maintain the inflammation. - The ulcerous eyelid inflammation (Blepharitis ulcerosa) leads to ulceration and small bleedings in the area of the eyelids.

As the eyelid inflammation is a chronic disease the treatment must be inevitably made over a long period of time, often during lifetime.
- Once or twice a day warm fomentations of the eye lids, afterwards cleansing of the eyelid margin under a soft pressure by means of cotton pads. As cleansing lotions please use a glass of warm water that is mixed with 3 drops of baby shampoo. Clean off the upper and lower lid with the cotton pad. Rinse out the eye with cold water afterwards and dry the eye lid margins with clean towel.
- Besides the cleansing of the lid that has to be made daily different medications for local use (eye drops or eye salves) are prescribed under consideration of your type of disease.
